Marblehead Dentist Gives Exonerated Man Something To Smile About
By Chris Stevens
WickedLocal Marblehead For more than 20 years, Angel Echavarria had nothing to smile about. He spent more than two decades in prison for a murder he did not commit and when he was exonerated in 2015, he was turned out on the street with no money, little support and a mouth full of pain. One year and nearly $100,000 worth of dental work, all done pro bono, later Echavarria has a whole new outlook. |
Dentist Adds To Marblehead's Magic
Letter to the Editor
WickedLocal Marblehead Marblehead was our home for many years while we raised four children for over 30 years. Three years ago we moved to Martha’s Vineyard. Every November and December, we stay at the Seagull Inn to be with our children and their families for the holidays. The Siglers are amazing people who have welcomed us. The Inn is beautiful, and the innkeepers are quite the cooks. |
Marblehead Dental Generously Reaches Out To Children And Families in Guatemala!
When Dr Selesnick learned that her patient, Jean Hamburg, was leading a Guatemala travel of 10 to work with children's programs, she sent along a substantial amount of dental supplies to share.
In San Lucas, Guatemala where children have experienced incredibly traumatic circumstances these precious children thrive in the care of loving Nannies! The kids all happily brush their teeth THREE TIMES EVERY DAY WITHOUT A FUSS. The new dental supplies were very welcomed!!! |
Long Way Home
The Buildings at this rural school are made entirely out of recyclable materials and students walk long distances to attend. A few weeks before the Travel Team arrived, the teachers did a dental lesson and the students were asked how many families owned toothbrushes. There were only two! Thankfully there were plenty of supplies to share. Timing is everything!

MARIA - AGE 13
Jean's sponsored child #1 and her family live in impoverished heartbreaking circumstances but their story is a heartwarming one filled with shared love for one another. They were overjoyed to receive their toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss! |
MELISA - AGE 16
Jean's sponsored child #2 and her brothers Denis age 18, and Bryan 13. After their mother was murdered in Aug. 2016 Melisa and Denis (who was blinded in an accident 3 years ago) are caring for Bryan and for each other. This brave sibling group is a testament to what it means to be family. They are even good students and take meticulous care of their possessions. The gift of the dental supplies was met with pure joy!!! |
